Introduction: Evaluation of risk factors of isolated pocket infection (PI) and isolated lead dependent infective endocarditis (LDIE) in patients referred for transvenous lead extraction (TLE).
Methods: Retrospective analysis of1554TLE procedures with 2571extracted leads. The examined population consisted of: group A-231 patients with isolated PI (59 F, mean age 69.7±12.9 years), group B-152 patients with isolated LDIE (55 F, mean age 64.1±15.6 years).Patientsqualified for TLE due to non-infective indications (923)andpatientswith clinical manifestation of concomitantPI and systemic infection markers or LDIE (248)were excluded from the analysis. The remaining parameters were assessed: the patient’s age and gender, number of device-related procedures performed before TLE, lead number and dwell-time, number of non-functional leads.Diabetes and renal failure were assessed in the part of population with complete information in the database.
Results: The results are presented in the table.
Conclusions:
- 1. Two variables: patient’s ageand lead dwell time correlated with the PM/ICD infection type.
- 2. Patients with PI were significantly older and had shorter lead dwell time in comparison with patients with LDIE.
