  • Manohar Sai Gowda was born in Bangalore, India to Dr. Hiranya Gowda and Saraswathi Devi Gowda. He attended Florida State University for his undergraduate degree and attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He was first an Internal Medicine resident and then Cardiovascular fellow at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri from 1995 until July 2002. He was first and foremost a dedicated and compassionate physician who provided excellent care to his patients. Over the course of his training in Kansas City, Dr. Gowda published 9 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and authored 18 abstracts presented at national meetings. In addition to his clinical skills and contributions to cardiovascular research, he is remembered by his colleagues as brilliant, insightful, and extremely hard-working. He was rarely seen without a smile, and was unfailingly kind and thoughtful to all with whom he interacted. He is survived by his parents, his wife Shubba Gowda, and daughter Anoushka Gowda. Thanks to the generous contributions of family and friends of Manohar, we are pleased to announce the Third Annual Dr. Manohar Sai Gowda Memorial Young Investigator Cardiovascular Research Award, to be presented at the 2012 Kansas City Heart Rhythm Symposium. This award has been established in appreciation of the late Dr. Gowda’s contributions to cardiovascular research as both an investigator and a mentor to young investigators.
